June Flower Garden Update: Prepping the Garden for Fall Beauty

Dahlias, roses and lizzie are up next as we begin to shift from spring to fall at blomma flower co.

Goodbye spring flowers, hello dahlias, foliage, and the return of roses.

The end of June marks a quiet but meaningful shift in the garden. Spring has done her part—bringing flushes of peonies, sweet peas, and early roses—and now the garden begins to lean toward fall. At Blomma Flower Co., this is the moment we pause, reset, and start prepping for what’s next.

This June flower garden update is less about what’s blooming now, and more about what’s coming.

🌸 Saying Goodbye to Spring Flowers

As temperatures rise, many of our spring favorites start to fade. The last of the sweet peas have been cut. Orlaya and nigella are dropping seed. Even the roses, after their first magnificent flush, go quiet in the heat. It’s a natural pause—a moment to rest both for us and the plants.

Instead of forcing production through July’s high sun, we use this time to transition the garden toward fall.

🌿 What We’re Doing Now: Prepping for Fall

End of June is when we:

  • Clear and compost spent spring annuals to make space

  • Pinch and stake the dahlias for strong, branching growth

  • Fertilize and water deeply to encourage a second flush of roses

  • Plant fall foliage crops like amaranth and eucalyptus

  • Watch the lisianthus size up and the zinnias begin to pop

Fall is built in the quiet of July. Every bouquet in September depends on what we do now.

🌾 What’s Coming Next

The next few weeks are about structure, roots, and planning. When August arrives, the garden will wake back up with:

  • Dahlias in full color

  • Roses reblooming on well-fed, rested canes

  • Grasses, pods, and bronze foliage that bring depth to fall designs

💬 From the Garden

This season is a reminder: beauty comes in waves, and every pause is a setup for the next flush. We’re grateful for the abundance spring gave us—and ready to design with the drama and richness of late summer and early fall.
